The Leatherhead Lions were asked by Chloe, a 21 year student from Bookham and former pupil of Therfield School, for possible funding towards a 11 week Raleigh International trip to Tanzania. On her return, Chloe gave members a talk about her experiences in the remote village of Mbeya, 24 hours travel from the capital Dar es Salaam. It was no picnic she told us - "no running water or sanitation, no electricity and I had a rat living under my bed who I named Patrick".

The purpose of the trip was to educate villagers in starting their own enterprises relating to agriculture and the women were taught good medical practice. Chloe said “The children were delightful so willing to learn and so happy even if they had so little. It was an experience I shall never forget”.
